Today’s post and review of Campbeltown Loch concludes my series exploring Blended Malts with what many consider one of the best blends available. It is also an opportunity to reflect on transparency of information in whisky and ask if we should expect more from Springbank.
If you have been following this series on funky whisky, you will not be surprised to see that the final chapter in the series is dedicated to the distillery at the top of most whisky lover’s list. Today is finally the time to review the Springbank 10 year old.
As I get closer to the end of this leg of the whisky journey focusing on funky malts, the hulking reputation of everything Campbeltown and Springbank-related looms large. Before getting to the obvious concluding highlight, today I review the Kilkerran 12, a whisky that has become one of my favourites.
After a couple of days break it’s time to dive back into funk. In my next three reviews, I will sample the entry-level original bottlings of Campbeltown’s famous distilleries. We start with today’s review of the Glen Scotia Double Cask.
Ask the average whisky fan what flavour profile they associate with Speyside, and funk is very unlikely to make the list. And yet I am reviewing the Craigellachie 13, another funky Speysider. A popular malt with the OSWA’s voters, I might have found my Goldilocks daily sipper.
The third stop in this exploration of funky whisky brings me to the shores of Scotland’s largest lake to review the Loch Lomond 12 year old. Considering I tend to have a spot for outliers, and how different Loch Lomond is from the stereotype of a distillery, this one should be right up my street!
After the Benromach 10, I take another step into the funky whisky realm with this review of the Ben Nevis 10 year old. It is fair to say that Ben Nevis is a cult distillery with a loyal fan base who swear by it.
After exploring some entry-level single malts hitting the classic flavour profiles, where to go next? I needed something different to avoid fatigue. So, I decided to go into the category captivating me the most right now, the so-called funky town starting revby reviewing the Benromach 10 year old.
